| The Swedish forest sector is experiencing new challenges, such as growing demand of raw materials, added value of biomass and the necessity of sustainable management of the forest resources in the changing climate. To cope with these challenges, Sweden needs to ensure a high quality of the research base in forest management. For this purpose, the Faculty of Forest Sciences at SLU initiated the Research School "Sustainable Management and Utilization of Forests". The Research School is organized according to the visions and strategic objectives of Lisbon and Bologna declarations, European SRA and Swedish NRA for the forest sector. The coordination and activities of the research school are financially supported by a grant from FORMAS. Our goals are
-
to organize a structured curriculum in the science of forest management.
-
to intensify and broaden the dialogue between the national, strong research environments and various actors in different parts of Swedish forest sector.
-
to promote internationalization of the PhD education through supporting and improving mobilityof students and teachers.
-
to provide intensive training in pedagogic, supervisory and communication skills for both the students and supervisors.
